Turboniq Atelier

Collection · Custom sofas

Sofas you don't want to apologise for, even in five years.

Our sofas are built on solid hardwood frames, with eight-way hand-tied springs, high-density foam wrapped in feather and down, and removable covers in your choice of fabric or leather. Every silhouette below can be lengthened, deepened, sectionalised or simplified — these are starting points, not catalogue numbers.

How we build

Joinery first. Foam and fabric afterwards.

Most of the sofas you see in showrooms are pine-frame and screwed at the corners. They look fine on day one and creak on day three thousand. Ours start with a kiln-dried merbau or oak frame, mortise-and-tenon joinery at every junction, and a corner-blocked base that will not flex.

Once the frame is built we spring it by hand: eight-way hand-tied steel springs into webbing for the seat, and helical springs into the back for that medium-soft give people associate with a good hotel sofa. Then we wrap the cushions in HD-35 foam, sleeve them in feather and down, and case them in your fabric. The seat covers come off for cleaning. The back cushions come off for replacement.

Quoted to brief

Fabrics and leathers

A small, carefully chosen library — not a wall of swatches.

We keep about sixty fabrics and a dozen leathers on hand in the showroom. They are not chosen for variety but for endurance: every one has been spec'd above 30,000 Martindale rubs, washes without fading, and is from a supplier we have used for more than five years. If you have a fabric you love that isn't in our library, you are welcome to specify it (COM, customer's own material) — we'll only ask that you confirm it is rated for upholstery.

Warranty and care

Frames are guaranteed for ten years. Springs and webbing for five.

Wear, sag, sun-fade and accidental damage are normal life for an upholstered piece. If a spring goes, bring it back — we re-tie, re-web and re-deliver. Our cushion inserts can be replaced for the cost of the materials, no labour. We will also re-upholster a Turboniq sofa in a new fabric at any point in its life for a labour fee less than the cost of a new equivalent.
